This sunny Sunday me and the family headed over to the Roundhouse in Derby to visit the Fabulous Places Summer Market. As many of you may know I usually attend this amazing event as a stall holder but the arrival of baby Margo has meant I’ve been able to take some time out and spend the day as a customer experiencing the event from the other side.
If you’ve never heard of the Fabulous Places events then firstly… where have you been!?! and secondly add it to your diary from now on. Deb (the mastermind behind the events) hosts three markets a year at the Roundhouse, Spring, Summer and then a 2 day Christmas extravaganza. The events are a fantastic day out for everyone and anyone with over 100 stalls of local businesses selling a variety of products ranging from home & giftware to food and drink. The events are also wonderfully creative so bloggers of the world be warned… you’ll want to bring your camera!! Heres the link for the next Christmas Market so get the dates in your diary and start planning your visit.
The weather this weekend has been absolutely amazing and when we arrived at the market there as a real buzz in the air at the courtyard entrance. Numerous food vans filled the walkway to the entrance and people were making the most of the day and basking in the sunshine. The perfect time to grab a quick glass of prosecco!!
Wandering round the event there was a lovely feel in the air, it was also lovely to see so many new stall holders as when your working there you often don’t get the time to properly explore. One new stall holder that I absolutely loved as Country Cut Flowers. Her hand knotted rope decorations were absolutely beautiful and I just wish I’d got a front door as beautiful as the one on her display to be able to do her creations some justice. Really looking forward to what she might create for Christmas!
A stall that is almost always impossible to pass by is Ruby Lou’s Treat co, especially with a 2 year old in tow! After a recent rebrand her stall looked fantastic and her cookie dough creations and cakes are irresistible. After much deliberation Stanley settled on a Mars Bar cookie sandwich ( which I thankfully managed to get a taste of)
As you enter the Roundhouse you are greeted by a HUGE sign celebrating Summer. This was created by Stacey from Darwin & Gray. Stacey is the creator and maker of wonderful printed and handpainted banners. Her creations are so unique and she works like an absolute trooper to create such a beautiful brand and keep up with the unimaginable demand for her products. She is so lovely that she even gifted me a lovely little mini banner ‘Mama Knows Best’ which is my new mantra for life!
Another stallholder who is always a pleasure to bump into at these events is Sophie from Sophisticakes patisserie. And it helps that she makes such gorgeous cakes. As well as her stall Sophie is also the creator of the cakes in the tea room, unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to pop into the tea room on this visit but take my word for it her cakes are phenomenal, I mean just look at her Pimms Layer cake!!
All in all it was a lovely day out, Stanley enjoyed wandering round (and his pizza for lunch) and baby Margo was a little superstar and really drew in the crowds. People couldn’t believe how small she was which made me and my other half laugh as I have VERY big babies I think she must have just been very curled up!! It was so nice to bump into some friendly faces, may of whom I haven’t seen since the last Christmas event. Im looking forward to taking a few days out of maternity leave life to get back behind the stall at Christmas and show you all what Frizz & Freckles has to offer. In the mean time have a little look at the lovelies I have in stock now and visit my little shop.
